Invaluable Tips for Remote Workers

How to Boost Your Productivity & Well-being

Remote work can be highly rewarding, which I have mentioned multiple times in previous posts. But working from home also presents unique challenges. Although I am a big supporter of this style, at the beginning I was struggling to manage my time, put boundaries, and pay attention to my well-being.

Now, after two and half years of remote working and having implemented several tips, I can share some to boost your productivity and well-being if you are a remote worker.

✔ First, create a designated workspace within your home. This dedicated area helps separate work from personal life somehow. I changed the guest room to an office, (now my guests must sleep on the sofa, sorry guys) as I was using my bedroom previously.

✔ Establishing a routine and sticking to a schedule is also crucial. Set clear working hours and maintain a consistent routine that includes breaks and personal activities. I use an alarm to follow my schedule.

✔ While working remotely allows for a more relaxed dress code, dressing up as if you were going to the office can significantly impact your mindset and motivation. Honestly, this has not yet been achieved because I prefer casual outfits. The only thing I do is dress in a more formal style whenever I have a meeting.

✔ Moreover, setting boundaries is essential. Communicate your availability to colleagues and family members to avoid interruptions and maintain a healthy work-life balance. It took me a while to achieve it but now is well understood by others.

✔ Regular breaks are super vital. Schedule short breaks throughout the day to rest your mind and recharge. I have two; one at 12 for a fifteen-minute walk with my dog, and one at 15:00 for lunch for half an hour. The latter was never achievable during my work in the office.

✔ Prioritization is crucial to manage your work effectively. Create a to-do list for your tasks, and focus on the most important and urgent ones first. Well, this one is my King and I use just a simple piece of paper, nothing fancy at all. I couldn’t do without it.
